A dock that isn’t the default taskbar setup: 5 min
Replace or restyle your taskbar with something that feels more intentional.
- WindowsTry Winstep Nexus (the free version is plenty) for a floating, resizable dock you fully customize.
- macOSYour dock is already there. Try changing its size, position, and enabling magnification in System Settings → Desktop & Dock.
2
Icon packs that don’t look default free
Swapping default icons is one of the highest-impact, lowest-effort visual changes you can make.
- Find a cohesive icon pack (matching style and color family) rather than mixing random ones.
- WindowsRight-click a shortcut → Properties → Change Icon to apply individually, or use a bulk icon-changer tool for a whole set.
3
Custom cursors
A small detail that quietly makes the whole desktop feel more “put together.”
- WindowsSettings → Bluetooth & devices → Mouse → Additional mouse settings → Pointers tab → load a custom scheme.
- macOSCursor color and size can be adjusted in Accessibility → Pointer Control. For fully custom cursors, third-party tools exist but change them with more caution.

Wallpapers that age well
A few directions worth trying. Gradients and abstract scenes tend to age better than photo wallpapers, and they pair well with a matching accent color in your theme.
